Sometimes nature takes us on unexpected adventures. Hard-won wisdom has taught me that leaning into the storm can produce some beautiful things. This was certainly the case with the latest vintage. A small block of errant Semillon was happened upon by thick Botrytis early into the harvest season. Nature left me with little choice as what to do. I gathered the grapes and began preparations for a Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA). The results speak for themselves.
Boasting nearly 200 g/L of residual sugar, this dessert wine is, simply put, epic. It's enormous and demands your complete attention. The nose just runs down the list of tropical fruit, stone fruit, and all sorts of candies. Violet flowers and honeysuckle too! The palate is like tasting the sun. My mouth is watering just writing this description. Normally, I would recommend stashing some in the cellar for a couple of decades, but I defy you to find me the person with that kind of willpower.
